Unlock Your Potential: Achieve Success with SMART Goal Setting
SMART is an acronym used to help you set better goals. SMART stands for, Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Setting a SMART goal will help you narrow down what your goal should be and how you can achieve it. Here is how:
Specific: A goal needs to be specific in order to be effective. A good question to ask yourself is: What needs to be accomplished, and what steps need to be taken to get there?
Measurable: In order to track progress and know when you have achieved your goal, it needs to be measurable.
Achievable: Goals need to be realistic. There is no sense in setting a goal that is impossible to achieve. It's not safe or healthy to lose 20lbs in 1 month so don't even try. If your goal is not achievable, you are setting yourself up for failure. Make sure your goals are realistic for your specific abilities.
Relevant: Ask yourself: Why am I setting this goal? If this goal is not relevant to you, your life & your needs, then maybe this isn't the right goal.
Time-bound: When setting your goal, you need at timeline. Good questions to ask yourself are: When does this goal need to be accomplished? When can it realistically be achieved? This will be different for everyone. It goes back to being achievable and realistic for you as an individual.
Now put it all together!
SMART Goal Example: I want to increase my strength by 10% in 3 months. I will do this through super slow resistance training 2x per week, using progressive overload to slowly increase the weights used during my training. I will measure my progress by comparing my starting weights to my weights at the end of 3 months.
