Understanding the Definition of Exercise for a Healthier You

Exercise Definition

If you do a Google search for exercise, you will find there are many definitions of it. I will define exercise and how we find it to be most accurate, as well as break it down to its simplest definition.

Exercise, as defined by Ken Hutchins (founder of SuperSlow), is as follows: “Exercise is a process whereby the body performs work of a demanding nature, in accordance with muscle and joint function, in a clinically-controlled environment, within the constraints of safety, meaningfully loading the muscular structures to inroad their strength to stimulate a growth mechanism within minimum time.”

Exercise can be defined as follows: Exercise is the process of fatiguing our muscles to a meaningful level to promote the body to optimize various aspects of our health.

Regardless of the type of exercise anyone decides to pursue, they all have these things in common: 1. Fatigue muscles 2. Allow muscles to recover 3. Reap benefits 4. Repeat.

Exercise itself is breaking down the muscles of our body to stimulate our bodies to adapt. Exercise itself does not make you stronger or healthier. The recovery between exercises is where the magic happens. If the balance between exercise and recovery is off, it can be very detrimental to your health. If you get nothing from this, please take away this: Recovery is AS essential to optimizing health as exercise.

Lastly, “When comparing different exercise methods, it is important to consider the following:

  1. Being strong, fit, and healthy should be a lifelong pursuit

  1. Any method of exercise can be effective if it is done hard, progressively, and consistently with a reasonable volume and frequency for the individual.

  1. Not all exercise methods are as efficient, safe, practical, or easy for everyone to adhere to.” (Written by Drew Baye, on www.baye.com).
