MIKE TEATER - OWNER

MIKE TEATER - OWNER

The Exercise Institute, Inc. was the first professional, private, and personal 15-minute exercise facility in the Inland Northwest. Since 1995, we have grown to become the most established and trusted facility as well.

We are truly unique because of our clinically designed facility, our safe, time efficient, and effective exercise program and our friendly, professional, and educated staff.

In addition to college degrees and/or nationally recognized personal certifications,  ALL of our people must pass a written, oral, and practical examination to be qualified as a Prime Effect™ Instructor, Specialist, or Sr. Exercise Specialist. Our people, place, and programs are all designed to give you the greatest opportunity to succeed.

All of your exercise and support is performed 1 on 1 under proper supervision in a private, clinical exercise room. Unlike many others in the industry, we invest heavily in appropriate exercise equipment.

We are proud that we have supervised in excess of 500,000 personal training sessions since opening, but we aren’t done getting better. We like to say, “Our clients aren’t the only ones making changes.”  That’s why you should give us a good look.

Jake Wood

Jake Wood is a 32 year old college graduate from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Jake recently married in October of 2020 and he and his wife are currently expecting a second child early in 2022. Jake swam competitively on the local swim team for over 15 years, obtaining three State Records and qualifying for several high level regional events. He attributes much of his competitive advantage to the knowledge and weightlifting training he received by Mike Teater at the Exercise Institute in the latter half of his swimming career.

In 2011, Jake focused his attention towards raising his daughter and obtaining an education from Gonzaga University in Environmental Studies; taking a specific interest in physiology and sports management. While attending Gonzaga in 2012, Jake began coaching weightlifting and dry-land training for the Coeur D’Alene Area Swim Team. During this time, Jake made it his personal goal to focus on safely preparing student athletes for college level competitive swimming, which helped Jake obtain a broad knowledge base of applied sports nutrition and injury prevention.

Since his competitive career, Jake’s academic and recreational pursuits have remained in the realm of exercise and medicine, including specialized training in crossfit, Olympic lifting, rock climbing, scuba diving, and kayaking.

Lauren Linford

Lauren is originally from Missoula Montana, but she made her way to Coeur d’Alene in 2008 to play college soccer for NIC. After playing for two years and earning her Associates Degree in Business Administration, Lauren returned to her hometown to attend the University of Montana. Here she studied Human and Health Performance, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science in 2014. It was during this time as well that she was introduced to weight lifting and she found a passion for learning different styles of training. In tandem with fitness, she grew a deep understanding of how important proper nutrition is to live an optimal life.

After graduating college Lauren moved to Santa Cruz, California to start her career in health and wellness. She interned at a prestigious fitness center for the summer, and quickly realized she had found her calling but also missed the PNW lifestyle. Lauren moved to Spokane where she earned her A.C.S.M. Personal Trainer certificate and worked as a Personal Trainer for 2 years, and then transitioned into working as an Exercise Therapist within chiropractic offices. After three years of working with clients on the rehabilitation side, she recognized that her passion was to work with people on the preventative side of fitness. It was at this point when Lauren was introduced to the Exercise Institute and 15-minute Super Slow Training in 2017.

Lauren truly believes that eating a healthy balanced diet, accompanied by regular exercise is essential in maintaining physical and mental health and well-being. She is a lifetime advocate for including resistance training into your weekly routine to help prevent injury, maintain flexibility and balance, decrease body fat, and increase muscle mass and bone density as we age. Two years ago Lauren also earned her ISSA Fitness Nutritionist certificate and coaches people of all ages how the use of food can prevent disease, promote health, and eat in a way that serves your body to its fullest potential.

Lauren currently resides in Hayden with her boyfriend, Micheal, and her two year old daughter, Kenadi Rei. In the summers you will find her wake-boarding on the lake, hiking, or enjoying the beaches with her family. In the winters she loves to snowboard and cook nutritious comfort food for her loved ones. Lauren cares deeply for her clients, and there is nothing she finds more joy in than to help be the catalyst for someone to recognize and reach their greatest potential within the one body they are given this lifetime.
